Romney Wins GOP Nomination

Surprised? At 5:40 pm EST, Mitt Romney officially became the Republican Party’s 2012 presidential nominee, six years after his quest began. In the traditional roll-call vote of the party’s delegates, Romney passed the required threshold of 1, 144 delegates after receiving 50 votes from New Jersey. The final tally resulted in 2,061 delegates for Romney, and 202 split among other candidates. When the roll call ended at Romney officially clinched the nomination, the convention’s house band started playing the Isley Brothers classic, “Shout.”
