Dems Cut Jerusalem Line from Platform

Going Mild

Swap it for something much less contentious.

The Democratic party's official platform, released last night does not include at least one contentious line from 2008. When the Democrats first nominated Barack Obama for their presidential candidate four years ago, the party platform included a line that declared, "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths." Now that Mitt Romney has made the debate over Israel's capital part of his Middle East policy, the line as been struck by the Dems. Instead, it reads, "The President's consistent support for Israel's right to defend itself and its steadfast opposition to any attempt to delegitimize Israel on the world stage are further evidence of our enduring commitment to Israel's security.'
