Jesse Jackson Jr.: Staying in the Race

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois became a focus of the media spotlight this summer not for his political work but because of his mental-health issues. Despite having been on medical leave since June, during which time he was reportedly treated for depression and bipolar disorder, his wife, Sandi, a Chicago alderman, insisted in an interview Tuesday that her husband has no plans to drop out of the November election to retain his seat in the House of Representatives. “He’s on the ballot and he’s going to stay on the ballot,” Jackson’s wife told an ABC News Chicago affiliate. “We are not making any changes, no new moves. Everything is very much dependent on his doctors’ decision.”
