American Airlines Cancels Flights

    Well, that’s reassuring. After airplane seats came loose on three separate planes last week, American Airlines is trying to explain its publicity fiasco Thursday. Officials say the problem stems from a combination of wear, poor design, and spilled soda that is causing pins to pop out of their place. For some reason these seats—which haven’t been problematic in 20 years of usage—are suddenly malfunctioning now. The company is scrambling to install a new locking mechanism on the 48 planes that have been pulled out of service, resulting in several canceled flights.
