Lone Star College Suspect Charged

Carlton Berry, 22, has been charged with aggravated assault after opening fire at Lone Star College in north Houston on Tuesday. Berry is currently being treated at Northwest Medical Center after apparently shooting himself when he mishandled his weapon. Berry allegedly opened fire after an altercation with another student, injuring that student and a janitor. The identities of the other man in the altercation, declared a “person of interest” by police, and the janitor have not yet been released. The incident, which prompted a campuswide lockdown, stoked fears of another deadly, mass school shooting—especially with memories of the Dec. 14 Newtown school shooting still fresh in everyone’s minds.
