Menendez: I Reimbursed Donor

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - JANUARY 30: FBI agents and other law enforcement officials are seen as they carry boxes out of the medical-office complex of Dr. Salomon Melgen who has possible ties to U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on January 30, 2013 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The agents arrived last night at the medical-office complex and started hauling away potential evidence in several vans. Denials probably won’t make those allegations go away. New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez’s office insisted Wednesday that he had reimbursed a donor for two of three personal trips to the Dominican Republic—and denied any allegations that the senator had used prostitutes on those travels. The FBI raided the office of the donor, Florida doctor Salomon Melgen, on Tuesday night and early Wednesday, but it was unclear whether the raid was related to Menendez, who traveled on Melgen’s private plane to the Dominican Republic three times in 2010. On Tuesday, Menendez became the chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee—a post held by incoming Secretary of State John Kerry.
