Feds Digging for Jimmy Hoffa in Detroit

An octogenarian mobster has FBI agents digging holes in a field outside Detroit in hopes of finding the remains of Jimmy Hoffa, the notorious Teamsters boss who went missing in 1975. But while the information provided by alleged gangster-turned-informant Tony Zerilli is believed to be “highly credible,” several hours into the search the agents hadn’t reported finding anything. Still, the head of the FBI’s Detroit office insisted that the digging was justified, telling CNN that Zerilli’s intel—which they’d pored over for months before seeking the court’s permission to take their shovels to the ground—“reached the threshold of probable cause, which was sufficient to allow us to obtain a search warrant. If it didn’t rise to that level, then, certainly, we wouldn’t be out here.”
