In what is being called “adventure capitalism,” some investors are doing research on emerging markets on their own two feet. Heading to the far corners of the world, these fortune-seekers meet locals, talk with native company executives, and even walk around local markets looking for locally popular products; all in the pursuit of the perfect stock. Trading on volatile local exchanges and often taking on extreme political and economic risk, these men and women find the deals others can’t.
