Who knew that retirement could be so lucrative? Apparently former Treasury secretary Timothy Geithner has joined the lecture circuit, having reportedly netted $400,000 with just three speaking engagements under his belt since leaving office in January—putting him among the ranks of Bill Clinton and Tony Blair. While it’s nothing new for public servants to take well-paid speaking gigs after leaving office, it can sometimes come off as shady to take one shortly after leaving office—see Alan Greenspan’s $250,000 paycheck one week after leaving the Federal Reserve at a dinner for the now-defunct Lehman Brothers. Geithner reportedly threw his name into the ring three months after leaving the Obama administration—and then took home $200,000 to speak at the Deutsche Bank conference last month.
