An Egyptian military court on Monday banned all activities by the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic organization with 1 million Egyptian members—and the party of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. Presiding Judge Mohammed el-Sayed also ordered the government to seize all the organization’s funds and to freeze its assets. The organization has claimed persecution under the military government after Morsi’s ouster—and this decision could only further mobilize them underground. The Muslim Brotherhood was one of the key factions that overthrew Hosni Mubarak in the 2011 revolution.
