Ukrainian Police Storm Protesters

A large camp of demonstrators at Independence Square was stormed by police who attempted to dismantle barricades in central Kiev on Wednesday. Hundreds of officers were pushed back by protesters shouting "Shame!" and ''We will stand!," and they retreated to take positions at the periphery. Ukrainians are outraged at the government's decision to strengthen ties with Russia over the European Union. On Tuesday, President Yanukovych vowed to restart trade and political discussions with the EU.
