All those people writing about leaving New York are part of a trend, it seems. The South and West had the largest increases in population in 2012 and 2013, according to Census Bureau data released Monday. The South gained 1.1 million new residents between 2012 and 2013, while the Western states added 728,000. The Northeast limped in with just 171,000 new residents, and the Midwest added 226,000 new residents. Those brutal winters in the Northeast must be starting to really turn people off. Texas added more people than any other state, but North Dakota’s 3.1 percent population increase was the biggest proportional increase. Two states, Maine and West Virginia, had a net loss of residents.
