Somalia’s Palace Compound Attacked

On Friday in the world's most lawless country, militants linked to al Qaeda stormed Somalia's presidential compound, killing at least 17 after blasting a hole in the outer wall with two car bombs and battling African peacekeeping forces. The prime minister's chief of staff was among those killed. According to police, fighters made their way inside the top military commander's house, but the president escaped unscathed. It's the latest in a serious of attacks on Mogadishu by al Shabaab fighters in the past few weeks, including an attack on a UN envoy that killed seven Somalis.
