At 12:10 a.m., Michael A. Taylor, the man from Kansas City who pleaded guilty to kidnapping, raping, and killing 15-year-old Ann Harrison in 1989, was executed by the state of Missouri. Taylor, 47, said in a phone call hours before his death by lethal injection that he had written a letter to the girl's parents expressing his "sincerest apology and heartfelt remorse." The execution date for his co-defendant, Roderick Nunley, who also pleaded guilty, has not been set. The execution on Wednesday morning was the fourth in Missouri since November, and it came after multiple last-minute legal hurdles, ending with a denied request for a stay from the Supreme Court.
