Senate GOP Blocks Pay Equity Bill

Republicans in the Senate filibustered the Paycheck Fairness Act on Wednesday, a bill that seeks to allow female workers to compare salaries without the threat of employer retaliation, requires companies to explain pay disparities, and permits those discriminated against to seek damages. The legislation needed 60 votes to open debate. Republicans called the bill a distraction from Democrats' record on the economy. Democrats like Harry Reid accused the other side of "obstruct[ing] equal pay for equal work."
