A man who didn't pay for a drink refill is out $525 and a job. Christopher Lewis, an on-site construction worker at a South Carolina Veterans Administration hospital, was stopped by a policeman who issued a federal fine for shoplifting and kicked off the premises after he took a drink refill without realizing he had to pay. "Every time I look at the ticket, it's unbelievable to me,” says Lewis. “I can't fathom the fact that I made a $0.89 mistake that cost me $525." Lewis will contest the fine in federal court.
