The U.S. Justice Department filed suit on Thursday to recover more than $700,000 in alleged corruption funds from former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan. The money is from the sale of his son's former Newport Beach home, which prosecutors claim was gained via corrupt practices. In 1997, Chun was convicted of receiving $200 million in bribes, but was quickly pardoned. “The U.S. will not be a safe repository for assets misappropriated by corrupt foreign leaders,” said the FBI.
