Despite international outcry, Brunei became the first East Asian country to adopt Sharia law on Wednesday. The announcement was made during a ceremony by the sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, who leads the oil-rich kingdom on the island of Borneo. The new law will affect both Muslims and non-Muslims in the country of 412,000 people.
