General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced Thursday that 15 employees “who we determined to have acted inappropriately” were fired in regard to an ignition-switch defect linked to at least 13 deaths and 47 crashes. Five additional employees have been disciplined for the failure to act. At the same time, GM has finished its internal investigation into the years-long failure to recall millions of cars with the defect, and concluded there was no deliberate coverup. The report claims that the failure to act was the result of bureaucratic issues.
