    Judge: Illegal Chicago Patronage Over

The Chicago government's hiring motto was once "we don't want nobody that nobody sent." Now that's not the case, according to a judge who just ended federal oversight of Chicago's hiring. It's a sign that the city has effectively self-policed against the illegal practice that Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been installing safeguards against. "I'm speaking to the people of Chicago that this is a big day for you," he said in the courtroom. Attorney Michael Shakman began his attack against the traditional practice of installing political allies in office half a century ago, and a federal monitor was installed to combat the problem in 2005.
