D.C. Cabs Protest Uber With Gridlock

TRAFFIC DELAYS

Just like in London.

Taxi drivers jammed the streets of downtown Washington D.C. on Wednesday as a protest against app-based riding services, like Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar. Led by members of the Teamster-affiliated D.C. Taxi Operators Association, the protestors claim the apps give their drivers an unfair advantage since they don’t have to subscribe to the same rules or fees. The protestors say they plan to formally petition city officials to impose a “cease and desist” on Uber and similar services. Earlier this month, cabbies in London protested in similar fashion, clogging up Trafalgar Square. Ironically, as a result of the protest in Washington D.C., some people reported trouble hailing a cab.
