First they came for our greater-than-three-ounces fluids, and now they're coming for our cellphones. The Transportation Security Administration announced Sunday that passengers traveling from overseas to the U.S. should expect to have their cellphones and other electronics checked. TSA officials will want to see that the devices can be turned on, and if they can't be powered up, they won't make it past security. TSA said in a statement, “Officers may ask that owners power up some devices, including cellphones. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft." The added regulation comes just days after the Department of Homeland Security announced it would increase security measures at certain overseas airports, reportedly in response to fears that terrorists in Syria were developing more sophisticated ways to sneak bombs onto flights. TSA also announced Sunday that passengers "may undergo additional screening."
