In an eerie quirk of fate, audio released this week shows former President Bill Clinton talking about his missed chance to get Osama bin Laden just hours before the 9/11 attacks. “And I’m just saying, you know, if I were Osama bin Laden… He’s a very smart guy. I spent a lot of time thinking about him. And I nearly got him once,” Clinton said. “I nearly got him,” he continued. “And I could have killed him, but I would have had to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children, and then I would have been no better than him.” Clinton was speaking at a business meeting in Melbourne, Australia. The proposed strike Clinton is referring to was in December 1998, after the U.S. received intelligence that bin Laden was staying at the governor's residence in Kandahar.
