A Long Island, New York teenager died Wednesday night after collapsing during a football game. High school junior Tom Cutinella suffered a head injury after being hit by an opponent and underwent surgery at Huntington Hospital but did not survive. “Tom played football for the district since he entered the high school in ninth grade," the school superintendent said, "becoming a member of the varsity team this year...He excelled academically, had a great sense of humor, and was just a great individual overall. He was well-liked among students and staff and he will truly be missed.” Cutinella's death is the third in high-school football in the past week. Demario Harris Jr. of Alabama collapsed on the field of his high school Sunday after being tackled. A neurologist told the team's coach that Harris had ruptured an aneurysm in his brain. In North Carolina last Friday, Isaiah Langston collapsed during pregame warmups and later died. Isaiah's brother said that the death was related to a blood clot in the brain, though no official cause of death has been issued.
