The U.S. targeted senior leaders of the Khorasan Group this week with airstrikes conducted in the town of Sarmada, in northwestern Syria near the city of Idlib, and Fox News reports that a Predator drone is believed to have killed French bomb maker David (Daoud) Drugeon. The Frenchman is a 24-year-old convert to Islam and reportedly a Khorasan member who makes bombs for the group. There were five strikes in total, using a combination of manned and unmanned aircraft, a defense official told Foreign Policy. The military is still assessing whether specific individual targets may have been killed, the official said. The Pentagon said it had seen reports of the strikes, but that it could not confirm them. The U.S first struck the Khorasan Group, a small and shadowy cell of senior al Qaeda operatives, on Sept. 23.
