The country known for brutally terrorizing and starving its citizens and sending them to work camps says the UN should be investigating the U.S. for its torture tactics. North Korea requested that the UN Security Council hold a meeting to discuss and investigate the interrogation tactics outlined in the Senate’s CIA torture report. “The so-called human-rights issue in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) is politically fabricated and, therefore, it is not at all relevant to the regional or international peace and security,” wrote North Korea UN Ambassador Ja Song Nam. “The issue of CIA torture crimes committed by the United States needs to be urgently addressed in the Security Council since it threatens to have an imminent and destabilizing impact on the maintenance of international peace and security.” North Korea’s request comes as two-thirds of the Security Council members have pushed for the Hermit Kingdom’s own human-rights record to be added to the agenda. In February, a UN report on North Korea’s human-rights situation said conditions in the country were comparable to Nazi-era horrors.
