Harper Lee Is ‘Hurt and Humiliated’

BOOK DRAMA

According to her lawyer.

In an interview this weekend, novelist Harper Lee’s lawyer has fired back at critics who claim that Lee was duped into releasing a new novel. According to the lawyer, Tonja B. Carter, she discovered Go Set a Watchman while thumbing through a manuscript she thought was To Kill a Mockingbird. She presented the find to Lee, she says, and Lee said it was complete and “the parent of Mockingbird.” According to Carter, Lee is also “extremely hurt and humiliated” over the idea that she was duped. Others who have visited Lee since the news have attested to her excitement about the novel’s release.
