Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, President Obama said Thursday there was “no excuse” for the gunfire that wounded two police officers during a demonstration outside the Ferguson, Missouri, police station. Obama added that years of racial targeting were “oppressive and objectionable and worthy of protest,” but it doesn’t excuse resorting to violence. “They’re criminals. They need to be arrested,” he said of the shooters. “What we need to do is to make sure that like-minded, good-spirited people on both sides... that we’re able to work together to try to come up with some good answers.” The St. Louis County Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol took over protest security Thursday night as protests peacefully endured. Police said they’re still searching for suspects in connection to the shooting of a St. Louis County officer, who was hit in the shoulder, and a Webster Groves cop who was shot in the face. Several people were taken into custody for questioning but later released, and no arrests were made.
