Forensic teams on Monday began the gruesome task of excavating as many as 12 mass graves that hold an estimated 1,700 Iraqi soldiers who were killed while fighting ISIS. Many were killed during the terrorist group’s spread last summer, with the brutal executions being videotaped and posted online as evidence. The excavation operation was launched after Iraqi forces drove militants out of Tikrit last week.
