America’s longest-serving prisoner held in solitary confinement has been ordered released by a federal judge. Albert Woodfox is now 68 and has served 43 years at the Louisiana State Penitentiary for the 1972 murder of a prison guard. Woodfox has always claimed his innocence, and now the judge has demanded his unconditional release and barred a third trial on his case. Louisiana’s attorney general is seeking an emergency stay of the order.
