A 19-year-old American is facing jail time after he traveled to Turkey with the intention of crossing into Syria to join ISIS, but changed his mind and returned home, the Washington Post reported on Sunday. Asher Abid Khan flew to Turkey to meet another teen in a plan to join ISIS, but instead boarded a plane back to his Houston suburb without ever leaving the airport. The second teen's disappearance prompted an FBI investigation and Khan was charged with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to ISIS fifteen months after he changed his mind. Khan now faces up to 30 years in prison. The teen's defense attorney, Thomas Berg, argues the charges send the wrong message to teens who may be thinking about joining ISIS and have no incentive to turn around and come home.
