Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos announced Wednesday that he and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebels were close to a historic peace deal. The conflict between the country's government and the rebels is Latin America's longest-running guerrilla war. The two sides agreed to determine a final arrangement within six months and that weapons would be turned over 60 days after a formal deal is signed. Around 220,000 people have died during over 50 years of war between these factions.
