As many as 20 people were arrested Thursday night after street protests turned violent at a campaign rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Costa Mesa, California. Video footage revealed protesters throwing objects at a passing truck while another stomped on a police cruiser, smashing its windows. Others slashed a police SUV’s tires and attempted to overturn another law-enforcement vehicle. Hundreds of the demonstrators swarmed the intersection outside the Pacific Amphitheatre and blocked traffic, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said it deployed 200 officers, with some in riot gear and on horseback to push back the crowds outside the venue, where some 8,000 Trump supporters had gathered to see the real-estate mogul. No major injuries were reported.
