ISIS appealed to Indian Muslims to join its ranks in a video threatening vengeance for violence perpetrated against Indian Muslims. In the video, a militant says that ISIS will come to India to avenge the deaths of Indian Muslims involved in riots in 2002 and a mosque razing in 1992. Another fighter attempts to persuade Indian Muslims, which number about 160 million in total, to travel to Syria.
“In this land you get to have hatred for the kuffar. In this land you get to perform jihad,” said an Indian militant identified as Abu Salman al-Hindi, who is reportedly in Syria. “In this land your religion is safe. In this land Allah’s law is the highest. In this land you have nothing that stops you from doing good deeds, from doing da’wah, from preaching Islam. In this land your life, your honor, your property is protected.”
