The Minnesota police officer who fatally shot a black man in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop was reacting to the “presence” and “display” of the motorist's gun, not his race, the officer's attorney said Saturday. Officer Jeronimo Yanez shot Philando Castile multiple times while he was still in the car. Castile's girlfriend, who has said that Castile was allowed to have the gun, recorded the horrific aftermath on Facebook live. The attorney, Thomas Kelly, said his client is “distraught and saddened” over the incident, according to the Associated Press.
