The Republican Party retained control of the U.S. Senate when, just past 1 a.m. ET, the Associated Press called Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race for incumbent Pat Toomey, who defeated his Democratic challenger, Katie McGinty. No matter the outcome in the presidential race, the GOP will have a majority in both the upper chamber and the lower chamber for at least the next two years. Additionally, Richard Burr and John McCain won their re-election races in North Carolina and Arizona, respectively. Ron Johnson kept his seat in Wisconsin, fending off challenger Russ Feingold.
