Chelsea Manning hit back Sunday against critics who accuse her of being an “American traitor,” saying she made an “ethical decision” to leak classified documents, the Associated Press reports. Speaking at the annual conference for the Nantucket Project in Massachusetts, Manning also commented on Harvard University’s decision to withdraw its invitation for her to serve as a visiting fellow. The dean of the Kennedy School of Government said the invitation was a “mistake” on Thursday after CIA Director Mike Pompeo canceled a planned appearance over Manning’s nod. “I’m not ashamed of being disinvited. I view that just as much of an honored distinction as the fellowship itself,” she said. She said the school’s decision points to a wider problem in the country, which she compared to a “dystopian novel” and “police state.”
