No surprise here: As early as 1964, Life magazine deemed San Francisco the
gay capital of the nation—a title the city still holds today. What might come as more of a surprise, though, is that San Francisco's gay community is predominantly male: 60 percent of same-sex couples in the Bay Area are men.
