Emergencies were declared on Monday in states across the Eastern seaboard after a hurricane-force summer storm—and unforgiving heat—resulted in power outages and more than a dozen deaths. That got us wondering: clearly some regions have felt the brunt of the sweltering summer more than others, so which cities have suffered the hot sun the most?
But we didn’t want to stop simply at finding the hottest cities in America—we wanted to find out which cities have been unseasonably warm since the cold months ended.
The Daily Beast used data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service for May and June. We averaged the degrees Fahrenheit departure from normal for these two months to determine our final ranking. When possible, ties were broken by using the total overall average temperature for these months.
Read on to see if your city has been feeling the heat in one of America’s Hottest Cities.
