Jared Kushner to Visit Middle East to Push Peace Deal

Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner will visit the Middle East this week to promote U.S. efforts to find peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. Citing a White House official, the report said Kushner would meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah to discuss “their priorities and potential next steps.” Jason Greenblatt, President Trump’s top representative on Israeli-Palestinian talks, will accompany Kushner. Trump has said one of his top priorities is resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and he touted Kushner, his son-in-law, as the perfect man for the job. The upcoming visit is not expected to yield any groundbreaking results, however. “It’s important to remember that forging a historic peace agreement will take time, and to the extent that there is progress, there are likely to be many visits” to the region, the White House official said.
