Lauryn Hill Blames Fugees U.S. Tour Cancellation on the Media
‘UNFORTUNATE PORTRAYAL’
Canceled appearances have become synonymous with Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, so when ticket holders to the band’s reunion tour were quietly canceled in the U.S. this week, not everyone was surprised. Hill, who rarely explains these things, took to social media on Wednesday to tell fans that this particular cancellation was the media’s fault, as their “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines” led to low ticket sales in North America. “The shows in the UK and Europe are moving forward as planned,” she also wrote in a statement posted to Twitter/X. “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” she wrote, and blamed the media’s coverage of the rescheduling for making fans think she might not show up. “The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.” As for the lucky concertgoers overseas who still get to see the tour, Hill wrote that they should be very excited. “The audiences in the UK and Europe not only haven’t seen the Miseducation anniversary performance yet, they haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in 25 years!”
