The Walt Disney Co. is accused of collecting personal information from children using its mobile apps and selling that data to advertising companies without parental consent, The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday. A recently filed federal lawsuit accuses Disney and three of its partners of violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by installing tracking software in its apps that can “exfiltrate that information off the smart device for advertising and other commercial purposes.” Disney said the lawsuit is based on a “fundamental misunderstanding of COPPA principles.”
