Bill O’Reilly’s Post-Debate Interview With Donald Trump Got Super Uncomfortable
Immediately following a Republican debate that began with Donald Trump’s not-so-humble brag about the size of his penis, the GOP frontrunner found himself face-to-face with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. And from the start, this particular post-game interview did not go well.
“We’re standing mano a mano here, you’re not going to be taller than me,” O’Reilly said, bringing himself up to Trump’s level—physically, that is—on the debate stage. Trump characterized the debate as “tough but fair,” however when O’Reilly asked who his biggest competition in the race is at this point, he began to equivocate.
“No, no, no, stop,” O’Reilly said, having none of it. “You look a little tired, are you tired?” he asked, needling the candidate. He proceeded to ask Trump why he engenders so much “loathing” from Republicans.
Throughout the interview, O’Reilly continued to press Trump on his potential general election weaknesses, calling him out on his flip-flops and shady business record. “Are you getting mad at guys like me when I ask you the negative questions?” O’Reilly asked in an attempt to stir up controversy.
“I think you’ve been very negative,” Trump replied. When O’Reilly asked him why he would say that, the candidate answered, “You’ll have to ask your psychiatrist.”
Things only got more awkward when Trump introduced his wife, Melania, to O’Reilly, who referred to her as “the best half,” adding, “It’s not even close.” While Trump said O’Reilly has been “fair” with him, he said, “you’ve gotten a little carried away with yourself.”
Thursday night’s debate was the first time Trump came face-to-face with O’Reilly’s colleague Megyn Kelly after he boycotted a Fox News debate just before the Iowa caucuses due to what he believed to be unfair treatment by the network.
