Brazilian officials arrested 10 people in a terror sting on Thursday, two weeks before athletes and tourists from around the world converge on the country for the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The suspects were part of an Islamist militant group called the Defenders of Sharia, authorities said. Brazil’s sports minister, Leonardo Picciani, said Wednesday “the government is absolutely convinced that the Games will be safe.” Alexandre de Moraes, the country’s justice minister, called the group a “disorganized cell” which communicated with each other through messaging apps WhatsApp and Telegram.
