Robert Pattinson’s hair has long made Twilight fans swoon, but when he showed off a partly shaved look at Comic-Con 2011, heads were turning for the wrong reasons. From Willow Smith to Rihanna, see the top 10 stars who half-heartedly took a razor to their hair.

Twilight’s leading man has sported everything from a standard crew cut to flouncy waves to bed head, but now the actor is going for something even less balanced. At Comic-Con he revealed a semi-buzz—i.e., he shaved only the right half of his head. The exotic choice was originally for his upcoming film, Cosmopolis, but seemingly, Pattinson is a fan, perhaps because it means less maintenance. “I don't really see the point in washing your hair,” he told Extra! in 2009. “If you don't care if your hair's clean or not, then why would you wash it?" At least now it’s easier to see if something is crawling in his follicles.

With a mere 10 years under her belt, celebrity offspring Willow Smith apparently tired of whipping her hair back and forth and made quite the entrance at Milan Fashion Week in September 2010 with a shorter 'do—at least on one side. The young fashion icon was motivated by another half-buzz cut on this list. “Willow is definitely inspired by Rihanna's style,” her stylist told Hollywood Life. “We make an effort to give Willow her own style, so as not to be a mini-version of Rihanna, but Willow really knows what she likes and what she doesn't like, and she's vocal about it.”

Rihanna rocked a Mohican hairdo throughout the latter half of 2009. She debuted the look in July, perhaps to give her scalp a little relief from the summer heat, but the cutting-edge pop star stuck with the style through the year. Her fans seemed to like it, which might explain why a couple of excited admirers pulled at the diva’s red locks at a Detroit concert recently. Her hair—whether cropped, crimson, or otherwise—is very important to her. “When I cut my hair, the whole sound changed, my style changed,” she told Vogue. “There are very few women who can dye their hair Bozo the Clown red and still look so cool, so beautiful,” one fashion expert told the magazine.

Former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert showed up at the 2010 MuchMusic Awards in Toronto with this lopsided, aggressive cut and was taken aback by everyone's surprise. He told MTV.com that he had shaved only a "tiny piece of [his] hairstyle … just 3 inches up the side of my head.” The singer joked that the haircut served a more pragmatic purpose: "I think [of it as] air conditioning.”

The former Spice Girl ditched what fans remember as her vivaciously curly 'fro for a more manageable 'do at an album launch party in Las Vegas in 2010. Scary Spice enjoyed the partially sheared look so much that she also gave it to her daughters: 11-year-old Phoenix, and her toddler with baby daddy Eddie Murphy, Angel.

Maybe there’s something in the water at American Idol? Unlike Adam Lambert, shaving a part of her head wasn't enough for season-three winner Fantasia Barrino—she also needed a healthy dose of hair dye to achieve this two-tone look at the 2008 Grammy Awards. The singer mixes up her hairdo quite often, but this may have been the only time she garnered comparisons to an iconic Disney villain—some bloggers said she looked like Cruella de Vil of 101 Dalmatians fame. If she doesn’t scare you …

Supermodel Alice Dellal helped popularize the partially shaved, punk-tinged "undercut,” which she brought to many red carpets, including the Top Glamour Women of the Year 2008 Awards in Madrid. Dellal told Vogue she was "such a tomboy" when she was little: "My brother and my Dad always used to shave their hair, and I remember thinking 'Why can't I do the same?'" Clearly, there’s no reason why not.

A year after playing an uptight ballerina in 2008’s Step Up 2: The Streets, singer Cassie Ventura—who goes by her first name—made a bold move to prove a point. “Sometimes in life, you need a change,” the 22-year-old tweeted to her fans via the New York Daily News, revealing her half-buzzed look in 2009. “Something that displays the ‘I don’t give a f---’ attitude that was always present, but never showcased. Something deeper than what you thought you were capable of. And something that will shock your mother, but make her call you a ROCK STAR.” She’s since decided to even things out, but she’s not growing her hair back any time soon. “I will at some point,” she told TheYBF.com in May. “I’m not ready, because I just shaved the other side … I feel like you're only young once and you can’t wear this every day.”

If Cassie and Eve are any indication, maybe all one-named artists will be one-sided when it comes to their hair. Rapper Eve is known for her ever-changing haircut, and in 2009 she sported this asymmetrical 'do proudly at a fashion show. She summed up her unique style ethos in an interview with Marie Claire: "I'm still a tomboy at heart ... In high school, I was the girl in the baggy jeans and Timberlands, but I was also at the hairdresser's every week. So I guess I've always been both." Obviously, picking a side can be a challenge.

Who could forget this moment in Britney Spears' strange 2007 dissolution into mental instability … and baldness? Spears may be the only member of this list whose haircut was less a stylistic decision than the product of a breakdown, but nevertheless, her ephemeral, mid-shave mullet is iconic. When the owner of a salon refused to shave Spears’ head one infamous February night, the pop princess did it herself. "The only emotion that she showed was when she said her mom was going to be mad that she was doing this to her hair, and she got a little bit teary-eyed,” the stylist recalled to ABC News. “Then she all of a sudden realized what she did." Four years later, Spears is glad to have her long blonde locks back. When Harper’s Bazaar asked the pop princess if she likes to “whip [her hair] back and forth” a la Willow Smith, she replied: “I'm a wash-and-go girl. But, oh yeah, I like to whip it.”
