According to an NBC News review of a classified intelligence report, the U.S. has sent more than 1,000 intelligence personnel to Rio de Janeiro to assist the Brazilian government with counterterrorism efforts throughout this month’s Summer Olympic Games. Hundreds of intel analysts, law enforcement, and special-ops officials are already in Brazil, the report revealed, and several highly trained Navy and Marine Corps commandos are in the country specifically to assist its military. “U.S. intelligence agencies are working closely with Brazilian intelligence officials to support their efforts to identify and disrupt potential threats to the Olympic Games in Rio,” a spokesman for National Intelligence Director James Clapper told NBC News.
