11 men are trapped in a small, wildcat gold mine in southern Honduras after a cave-in on Wednesday. Emergencies Commission director Moises Alvarado said at one point that eight of the men had been rescued and taken to a hospital, but later withdrew the report, saying he had been given incorrect information by a firefighter at the site. All 11 men are still trapped and more than 300 Red Cross volunteers, locals, and firefighters are digging by hand in an effort to reach the miners. No heavy machinery is being used because the mien is unstable and could collapse further.
