At least 18 Afghan police officers were killed in two separate explosions on Saturday. A suicide bomber attacked a group of police officers in the northern Kunduz province, killing 10 officers, including the city’s counterterrorism chief. A Taliban-led group claimed responsibility for that attack. Hours later in Kandahar, eight police officers and two detainees lost their lives when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. No one has claimed responsibility for that attack, but the Taliban is known to rely heavily on roadside bombs in its operations.
