Eighteen Chinese nursery-school-age children were killed Thursday in China when a coal truck slammed into an overcrowded van. The deadly crash also killed the driver of the van and a teacher on board while injuring another 44 people, 10 seriously. An initial investigation showed the van was carrying 64 people, even though it was permitted to carry only nine, reported Chinese state radio news. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash, but many in China have already blamed deadly roads and lax oversight.
