Two Americans from South Carolina were found stabbed to death in their home in St. Maarten on Friday. The couple, Michael and Thelma King, lived in Cupecoy, a touristy area that was generally considered safe, according to island authorities. Thelma was found tied to a chair, while Michael was lying on the floor. St. Maarten’s solicitor-general called it “an ugly scene.” Police have taken a suspect into custody but are cautioning that they are in the early stages of investigating. It’s not clear what the motive was, though locals have been speculating that it was a robbery gone awry.
